LFA: London Bridge: Greening Central London

  • London Bridge Hive 8 Holyrood Street London, England, SE1 2EL United Kingdom (map)

A talk and tour of the network of green spaces and pocket parks transforming the look and feel of a dense, urban business district.

Team London Bridge manages 1 hectare of green space. For many years, we have worked with Darryl Moore, landscape designer at Cityscapes, to design, build and nurture incredible pocket parks, green alleys and verdant corners teeming with wildlife. Increasingly our projects introduce principles of circular economy, climate friendly planting and water management. Darryl will give a talk about planting principles from his book "Gardening in a Changing World" and lead a tour of several beautiful and surprising sites where his ideas can be viewed in situ. Projects include award winning relocated gardens from RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Team London Bridge has a rich tradition of introducing greenery and biodiversity into the business district, re-imagining what previously inconspicuous urban objects, facades and spaces can become through imagination, effort and expertise.

The London Festival of Architecture is a month long celebration of architecture and city-making, taking place every June across London. The Festival’s mission is to open up discussions around architecture, test new ideas and uncover and promote new talent. What makes the LFA unique is that the LFA programme is people-led and curated by event organisers; we believe in the power of collaboration with the people who live, shape, and truly know London. It’s the breadth and creativity of this community of event organisers that delivers such a varied and engaging programme of events for the festival each June.
