Professor Simon Howell (Chair)

Director of Academic Estates Strategy for Health Campuses and Guy’s Campus Dean - King's College London 

Simon Howell joined the TLB Board and became Chair in March 2017. He holds PhD and DSc degrees in physiology from the University of London and is currently Director of Academic Estates Strategy for Health Campuses and Guy’s Campus Dean at King’s College London.  His research interests are in diabetes and in particular in the mechanism and regulation of insulin secretion.  He was awarded the RD Laurence lectureship of the British Diabetic Association and the Minkowski Prize of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in recognition of his research.

He has been a member of Council of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and of the Association of Medical Research Charities and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the charity Diabetes UK 2006-2009.


Councillor John Batteson

Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, Jobs and Business - Southwark Council

John was elected as a Southwark councillor in May 2022 and took on his cabinet brief two years later. His portfolio includes the council’s climate emergency strategy, green economy, town centres and business support along with the skills development plan which includes jobs and apprenticeships.

Prior to becoming a councillor, John worked in recruitment across different sectors including federal government departments in Australia, executive search and child protection social work. He also worked at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) providing careers support to students and graduates before joining Korn Ferry, a global organisational consulting firm, supporting clients in the life sciences sector to develop and deliver diversity, equity and inclusion strategies.


David Baughan

Head of Property and Asset Management - Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Having qualified as a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1994 David has specialised in property valuation and management matters across a number of Public Sector bodies including the Valuation Office Agency, Basildon Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Public Health England. David has also been a senior member of the Association of Chief Estate Surveyors since 2005 with particular interest in how public sector property assets can be used to promote improved public health and wellbeing.


Daniel Charles

Head of Retail - Network Rail

With more than 35 years’ international experience in hospitality, leisure and retail, Daniel leads on developing Network Rail’s retail operational conditions, supporting safety and the retail customer experience.  He oversees more than 780,000 sq. ft of retail space across Network Rail’s managed stations, managing relationships with over 150 brands. 

Daniel’s expertise has helped to shape the retail offer at Network Rail, maximising sales and income through tenant mix, client relationships and customer service. Daniel re-joined Network Rail as Head of Retail in 2016. Daniel has also worked as the Head of Retail for Abu Dhabi airport, where he created the commercial strategy for a new terminal that will become the largest in the world.  He also has experience as Operations Manager at Tragus Holdings, supporting 160 restaurants.


Claudette Curtis

Director of Property & Facilities - News UK

Claudette Curtis has worked in facilities management for over twenty years, firstly at The Financial Times, which also included working alongside Better Bankside BID area and then with News UK. In the last 10 years Claudette has been actively involved in employee representation and have recently become a member of the Company's Diversity Board.

Claudette has a special interest in all things environmental, which has developed into creating green champions throughout the company, as well as maintaining our BREEAM status.


James Dinwiddie BA (Hons) BArch RIBA 

Partner - Dinwiddie MacLaren Architects

James Dinwiddie is a registered architect with more than twenty years experience in private practice. He has been based in the area since the mid 1980's when he co-founded Dinwiddie MacLaren and established his practice in a converted Victorian mission hall just south of London Bridge station. 

James was Team London Bridge Chair 2006-17 and was on the original steering group to scope forming a BID in London Bridge. Having successfully designed and managed a variety of projects including offices, schools, private houses and commercial interiors, James is understandably enthusiastic about the many world-class developments planned and underway locally. 


Kurt Macher

General Manager – Shangri-La The Shard, London

Kurt is an international hotelier with over 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry. He has worked for some of the world’s leading hotel brands including Wharf Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and The Peninsula Group throughout the US, Canada, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East and Asia. Under Kurt’s leadership, Shangri-La The Shard, London has been awarded numerous industry accolades including being named London’s No.1 Hotel in the Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards, 2021 and ranking among the top 10 hotels in London in the Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards.


Tim Molden

Head of Security & Licensing - Capital Arches Group

Tim is Head of Security & Licensing for Capital Arches Group, McDonald’s, overseeing 31 restaurants. Prior to this he was The Director of Security for The Savoy Hotel, responsible for all Security Operations, Health & Safety and Fire Safety. Prior to joining The Savoy, Tim served in The Metropolitan Police where he was the lead planner for hotels for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, London 2012 Olympic Games, State Visit of President Obama and was the Business Engagement Lead in Westminster. He is a Board Director for ASIS UK and Chair of Membership and a Court Assistant of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.


Jess Saint

ESG / Development Surveyor - Guy's & St Thomas' Foundation

Jess Saint is a chartered surveyor in the endowment team at Guy's & St Thomas' Foundation. Jess is responsible for developing the property portfolio ESG strategy, progressing the Foundation's property developments and managing the diverse commercial, student and agricultural portfolios. The Foundation aim to be a responsible asset owner, investor and partner in their developments, while also generating income to enable charitable spending to support their mission of building a healthier society.

Jess has a particular interest in reducing carbon emissions across the Foundation’s portfolio. Prior to joining the Foundation, Jess worked in development at Savills specialising in mixed use valuation, consultancy and agency across the south east.


Andrew Weir 

Partner - Anthony Gold Solicitors 

Andrew Weir is a Partner at Anthony Gold and has worked in SE1 for more than 15 years. Having trained with a commercial property practice on the south coast he continued to develop his property career as a partner in a specialist property practice on Bermondsey Street before joining Anthony Gold in 2015. Andrew has a particular interest in commercial leases and assisting business owners with their property requirements.
