Your next step in reducing business’ carbon emissions via the Southwark Climate Collective
We are excited to announce a new initiative providing bespoke support to businesses in London Bridge.
This builds on the work some of you may have done using the xTonnes tool and also the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge.
The Southwark Climate Collective (SCC) is a new 12-month programme supporting businesses to take action on climate change, supported by the Mayor of London.
The initiative will provide free, expert decarbonisation support to reduce carbon emissions, increase efficiency and cut costs.
Participating businesses can choose to take part in one of four programme streams:
Waste
Energy
Freight
and Supply Chains
Through these you will receive tailored technical support, training, network events, carbon literacy training and a celebration event, all worth up to £6,000 to your business
If you work for a small or medium-sized business (this can mean a medium sized office here, even if you have other offices elsewhere) then you can take part. Early participants averaged £8,300 savings thanks to the support they received.
The SCC programme will celebrate the diversity of businesses in Southwark.

Building on the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge
The SCC is an extension of the BCC (the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge). 20 businesses in London Bridge are already taking part. They have received their energy audit reports and are making changes in their offices – with the aim of achieving a 10% decrease in energy bills this year. This project is coming to an end although we will continue to monitor our energy use into the new year.
At Team London Bridge, we have also taken part. We have received an audit report from Turner and Townsend, and are starting to implement the measures. We are fortunate to have a sustainable office already – indeed our low energy use was described as “amazing”!
But, we can do more. This week we are moving to a renewable energy provider that demonstrates “additionality”, so that our electricity use contributes positively towards investing in emission reduction – part of our route to net zero operational energy. We’ve also adjusted our office air and water temperature, and are more conscious about turning off equipment across the team.
There is so much to learn, but knowing why we are taking action helps to embed good behaviour across our organisation, and we have now got new office sustainability champions. We look forward to continuing this journey with our business community.
